and the suspected shooter. The tragic event unfolded in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, described as a case of “intimate partner violence.”
The grim discovery occurred late on Monday near the confluence of three Great Lakes, bordering the US state of Michigan, approximately 700 kilometers (430 miles) north of Toronto. Authorities were alerted to the situation after reports of break-ins.
Fatalities at Two Residences: Canada
At the first residence, a 41-year-old individual was found dead from a gunshot wound. The shooter had fled the area before the police’s arrival. A mere ten minutes later, another distress call led the police to a second home just 3.7 kilometers (2.3 miles) away.

There, they uncovered a devastating scene – three lifeless children, aged six, seven, and 12, alongside the suspected shooter, who appeared to have taken their own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Another victim, aged 45, was discovered with a gunshot wound and rushed to the hospital.

Sault Police Chief Hugh Stevenson stated that the two incidents were connected and resulted from “intimate partner violence.”

The Mayor, Matthew Shoemaker, expressed his sorrow, describing the events as an “unspeakable tragedy.” According to government data, although gun crimes in Canada decreased from 2020 to 2021 and account for a small portion of all violent crimes, the number of shootings has risen over the past decade.
