India, UAE and France held their first trilateral foreign ministers meeting in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and discussed a new, more modern approach to diplomacy, focusing on the “active exchange” of ideas between strategic partners and the UN Security Council between members.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also met the President of the UN General Assembly and held bilateral meetings with eight counterparts from Indonesia to Trinidad to discuss topics such as security, food, agriculture, economy and development.
Jaishankar arrived in New York on Sunday for the 77th UNGA high-level session, which began on Tuesday with the opening of the general debate.
Jashankar also met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. His first meetings were with the Interim President of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, Argentina’s Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiro, as well as Guatemala’s Mario Adolfo Bucaro Flores and Trinidad and Tobago’s Meeting with Foreign Minister Amery Brown.
The foreign minister also had a one-on-one meeting with the UAE foreign minister.
He met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, and the two sides exchanged views on G20 cooperation. Indonesia is the current G20 presidency and will hand over the rotating presidency to India later this year. Jaishankar also met Ian Borg, the foreign minister of Malta, which has Commonwealth ties with India.
When meeting with the Cuban Foreign Minister, Jashankar expressed his willingness to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation and develop economic, trade and investment relations.
