Uddhav Thackeray believes that wearing masks is still the state’s best weapon against the coronavirus pandemic.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, warned on Sunday that if the state witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases, it would impose a lockdown.
Thackeray spoke to the people of the state on social media on Monday, saying that Maharashtra is ready before the third wave of Covid-19.
He said that the state currently has 600 testing laboratories, and the number of isolation beds has increased to more than 450,000, which can provide 34,507 ICU beds and 110,683 oxygen beds. He also pointed out that the state currently has 13,500 ventilators.
Thackeray emphasized that 2 million people were affected in the first wave and 4 million people were affected in the second wave. He said that the Buriham Mumbai Municipal Corporation has launched a genome sequencing laboratory.
Talking about the state’s oxygen production restrictions, Thackeray said, “The state’s oxygen production is still 1,300 tons per day. Last time, during the second wave of coronavirus, we received 1,700-1800 tons of oxygen per day. Even if we implement Oxygen self-adequacy policy, oxygen production is immediately restricted. Other states are now increasing outbreaks. If the number of patients in this state increases, it will be locked down.”
He further stated that although Covid restrictions are allowed to be relaxed in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, the number of infections is still increasing in some areas of the state, such as Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Kolhapur, Satara, Ahmednagar, Beed, Pune, Sangli, etc.
“So far, the people of Maharashtra have been cooperating with the state government, which is why the Mumbai model of Maharashtra is appreciated by the whole world. He also said that all this is attributed to the people of the state. ,” Thackeray said.
The Chief Minister further informed that to date, 46,376,000 citizens of the state have been vaccinated. The number of citizens who received the first dose was 34,530,719, and the number of citizens who received the second dose was 11,846,107.
“The state has a huge vaccination capacity. We can vaccinate 80 to 100,000 people every day, but given the limited supply of vaccines, masks are our true protector today,” he added.
At the same time, the health department of Maharashtra stated on Sunday that as of August 8, Maharashtra had reported as many as 45 cases of Covid-19 Delta variant, and the state also reported that day. There were 5,508 new coronavirus infections.
