India, UAE, US, Saudi cooperation aims to ‘do good in region’: UN Security Council chief

[ad_1]

United Nations: Security Council President Lana Nusseibeh said the meeting of top security officials from India, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the United States was a partnership “in support of the multilateral system” and “doing good in the region”.

Nusseibeh, the UAE’s permanent representative, who took over as chairman of the council on Thursday, said the development was “essentially about countries that really share common interests, with strong ties like India, the UAE and others” to address some of the region’s “existing problems.” Solve core problems in a flexible and agile way.”

Asked about that meeting in Riyadh and the I2U2 Quartet at a news conference after taking the chair, she said it was “a good buttress for the multilateral system, it’s about regional solutions to regional problems.” plan”.

It’s also “a positive agenda that we want to see when countries that are able” “come together to try to work hard and fundamentally do good in the region,” she said.

“It is looking for ways to reduce borders and barriers to the economy, trade and movement of people,” she added.

India’s national security adviser Ajit Doval, the UAE’s Tano bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the United States’ Jack Sullivan were in Riyadh last month with the Saudi crown prince, according to a Saudi statement. Mohammed bin Salman meets to discuss ‘growth and stability’ in the region.

Although they have not officially come together, last year the leaders of India, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the United States launched a four-nation alliance called I2U2, after the initials of the four countries.

Nusseibeh said the countries involved in the initiatives discussed cooperation in renewable energy, green energy technologies, job creation for the growing number of younger generations looking for jobs and economic growth.

“I do think these are exciting partnerships and I think they will be of great interest to our people,” she added.

Unlike the Indo-Pacific region, where China poses security concerns for India and the United States, challenges in the Middle East arise from Beijing’s subtle economic and political push through the Belt and Road Initiative.
