Abu Dhabi, October 11: An Indian-origin teacher was honored in Abu Dhabi for her dedication and contribution to education on World Teachers’ Day.
Greeshma Rajesh Anil Kumar, 35, a computer science teacher at the Mayoor Private School, is one of three teachers awarded by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).
“This recognition means more responsibility. Now I have to maintain my commitment to students and society consistently and even further,” Kumar told Khaleej Times.
Teachers are judged by their significant impact on classrooms and students, and by how they differ from their peers.
Award-winning teachers were recognized during their unexpected visit to their schools, and ADEK representatives joined school leaders and colleagues as well as students to celebrate the outstanding work of the award-winning teachers over the past year.
According to The Khaleej Times, ADEK received more than 190 nominations from private and charter schools this year, reflecting a year-over-year increase in participation in the award, which has received around 700 since its launch on World Teachers’ Day 2019 nominate.
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on October 5 to recognize, evaluate and improve teachers, and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to education.
The theme of this year’s Teacher’s Day is “Educational Change Starts with Teachers”.
