NEW DELHI – RK Singh, India’s Minister of New, Renewable and Power, has hailed India’s ongoing cooperation with the UAE in the field of renewable energy.
Responding to a question from members of the Upper House about his ministry, Singh said discussions were ongoing with the UAE on cooperation in the field of green hydrogen development. There is potential for investment in the sector in both the UAE and India.
While “electricity is a co-existing theme, the supply or distribution of electricity to all consumers in rural areas is largely within the purview of state governments and state power companies, but the Indian government complements the efforts of the states through various schemes,” Singh said.
In this context, similar bilateral cooperation in renewable energy with Australia, Finland and Germany is being promoted. All of these countries have successful initiatives in renewable energy.
Singh said that as of April 28, 2018, according to the 2011 National Census, all inhabited villages in India had been electrified.
“Both India and the UAE are leaders in the development of low-cost renewable energy. Both countries are building a strong relationship in the field of renewable energy,” the foreign ministry said in a press release here.
