India’s new railway shuts down after damage in blast

November 13 (United Nations League) — Authorities are investigating a possible terror attack in India’s central west after an explosive device damaged a newly opened railway.

Earlier on Sunday, the Udaipur-Ahmedabad railway in Rajasthan was structurally damaged by an explosive device on the Odda railway bridge, authorities said. tell the Press Trust of India.

Trains quickly stopped using the bridge after locals reported hearing a loud explosion, detonators and gunpowder were found at the scene, and large cracks were found in the tracks, which officials said they feared could lead to derailment.

The Udaipur counter-terrorism team is investigating the incident and the line is expected to be reopened for use, officials said.

“Teams from ATS, (National Bureau of Investigation) and (Indian Railways) are on the scene,” Federal Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told AsiaNews International. “The defendant will be severely punished. The team to repair the bridge is already on the scene.”

The railway is the main source of the 160-mile rail traffic between Udaipur and Ahmedabad, recently introduced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Regarded as a key link connecting travelers from northern, eastern and coastal regions of India.
