ISLAMABAD: Rising cases of uranium theft and smuggling in India have become a threat to the world.
According to reports, the poor security arrangements of India’s nuclear program are shocking, and India’s nuclear material theft in the past 20 years has caused a serious threat of nuclear terrorism.
Defense analysts believe that international powers need to take action to deal with India’s poor security standards, and the recent occurrence of multiple uranium thefts in India shows that there is a black market for nuclear materials in India.

During 2021, Indian authorities seized 6.4 kg of uranium in Jharkhand, 7 kg in Maharashtra and 250 kg of radioactive and highly toxic uranium in Kolkata on 26 August 2021 , valued at $573 million.

Likewise, in December 2006, a container full of radioactive material was stolen from a research center in Rajarpa (Ramgarh district). On March 9, 2022, India accidentally launched a BrahMos missile from the Sirsa area of Haryana State and crashed in the Mechanu area of Pakistan.
Indian authorities also arrested a number of people on charges of illegally trafficking uranium, the Arms Control Association reported.
Experts say such incidents could lead to misunderstandings between nuclear powers India and Pakistan.
