Intelligence on foreign nuclear readiness found in Trump’s home: report | World News

[ad_1]

One of the classified documents seized by the FBI Former US President Donald TrumpHis Florida residence described a foreign power’s nuclear and military defense capabilities, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Citing unnamed sources familiar with the case, the paper said some of the documents found at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate were so classified that only the president and officials at or near the cabinet level could authorize other administration officials to access them.

It did not mention the country whose defense and nuclear capabilities were in the document.

Such documents require special permission on a need-to-know basis, not a general top-secret permission, according to the Post.

No details were given on where the residence, which is also a private members’ club, was found to have highly sensitive material, or under what type of security measures.

Trump is facing mounting legal pressure, with the Justice Department saying top-secret documents “may be hidden” to hinder an FBI investigation into Trump’s possible mishandling of classified material.

When agents raided the Mar-a-Lago resort on Aug. 8, they found the material so sensitive that “even the FBI counterintelligence officers and DOJ attorneys conducting the review needed additional clearance to be allowed to review certain documents, ” said a government court document.

The FBI raid came after a review of “highly classified” records Trump finally handed over to authorities in January after months of back and forth with the National Archives and Records Administration.

The 15 boxes Trump handed over were found to contain 184 documents marked classified, classified or top secret.

Prompted by the FBI, Trump’s lawyers eventually turned over another 38 classified documents — and provided “sworn attestations” that they represented the last material.

But the FBI continued to uncover “multiple sources of evidence” showing classified documents remained at Mar-a-Lago.
