Intensive clashes in Dar’a governorate in southern Syria

[ad_1]

The battle began when government forces fired artillery shells at De La Ballard and advanced ground.

Fighting between Syrian government forces and the rebels has intensified near Daraa, and the conflict has been described as the worst since the southern province of the same name was controlled by the government.

The Russian-backed government and allied forces recaptured Dera from the rebels in 2018, a symbolic blow to the uprising against President Bashar Assad who was born there in 2011.

The state agency has since returned, but the army has not yet been deployed across the province. Since then, tit-for-tat explosions and assassinations between former opposition figures and government forces have become commonplace.

Tensions broke out on Thursday, leading to what the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights called “the most violent and widespread conflict in Dar’a governorate.” [Deraa] Because it is under the control of the regime”.

The British-based war monitor said that when government forces fired artillery shells and advanced ground advances at the former opposition center De La Ballard, the battle began.

The pro-government Al-Watan newspaper called it “the beginning of a military operation against the hiding place of terrorists who broke the settlement agreement.”

Many former rebels stayed in Dera, instead of evacuating in accordance with the agreement of Moscow’s mediation, either joined the army or continued to control parts of the province.

Deraa al-Balad, the southern part of the city of Deraa, is one of the areas controlled by the former opposition forces.

In response to Thursday’s shelling, the gunmen launched a counterattack in many parts of Dela’s village, where they occupied several government strongholds.

The observatory said: “In the last few hours, eight Syrian regime and allied militiamen were killed in clashes in Dar’a province.”

“The gunmen also captured more than 15 members of the regime’s forces in the western and eastern rural areas of Dera,” it added.
