In an interview with ISNA, Alireza Enayati, a senior diplomat who is expected to succeed Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, noted that Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and other officials had recently visited Abu Dhabi.

He said such a visit was promising, adding: “We hope that these meetings will be effective in developing relations between the two countries in various fields, including economic and commercial.”

The diplomat said Iran had received an invitation from Lacey to visit the United Arab Emirates for a climate change conference and that Tehran was reviewing the president’s schedule.

He emphasized the importance of economic cooperation between the southern and northern countries of the Persian Gulf and the proper use of the existing capabilities of these countries.

“Focus on these capabilities can greatly assist cooperation and economic development in the region,” he said.

“Using Iran’s capabilities in this area is cost-effective for Persian Gulf countries, and they can use this best opportunity to import and export goods they want from regions such as Central Asia,” Enayati added.
