Iranian warship fends off pirate attacks in the Gulf of Aden

[ad_1]

Authorities said pirates on five ships attacked two Iranian tankers but were repelled by warships.

Tehran, Iran Iran’s national television said an Iranian warship repelled pirates trying to take over two Iranian tankers in the Gulf of Aden.

The commander of the Iranian Navy called the incident “maritime terrorism” and said on Saturday that two tankers were attacked by pirates commanding five ships.

Admiral Shahram Irani added that a group of warships escorting the tanker, including the destroyer USS Alboz, withstood the attack.

Ilani said, “The attacking ship was forced to leave the scene, their attack was repelled, and the commando responded in time” on the ship that fired at them.

According to Irani, two unnamed tankers passed the area safely and the area is now safe.

In recent years, the Iranian Navy has expanded the scope of escort operations to protect its ships from Somali pirates.

In June of this year, the two Iranian warships Makran and Sahand embarked on a journey that lasted more than four months.

They sailed into the Atlantic for the first time, making Washington speculate that they might be heading to Venezuela.

They finally reached St. Petersburg, Russia, and participated in a joint naval exercise.

The two domestic ships returned to the Strait of Hormuz and ended their journey in the Iranian waters of Bandar Abbas last month.
