Reports have recently been circulating on social media platforms that there has been an increase in Pakistani passport issuance and renewal fees for Pakistani citizens in the UAE.
However, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports of Pakistan (DGIP) denied such reports.
“Some false news about an increase in the fee for machine-readable passports has been circulating on social media. To clarify, there is no increase in the existing passport fee structure,” it said.
The DGIP added: “The department has recently determined and announced the fees for the newly launched e-passports. After the nationwide rollout, it will only be applicable to ordinary e-passports, while the fees for machine-readable passports (MRP) will be the same as before.”
On Sunday, Pakistan’s home ministry launched e-passports and issued a schedule of fees, which vary depending on the type and duration of the passport and whether the application is normal or urgent.
The newly announced fees range from 9,000 to 40,500 rupees ($34 to $151).
