Top international badminton players are expected to compete in the 45th ISC-Apex UAE Badminton Gold Championships in Abu Dhabi this month.
The competition will be held at the Indian Society Cultural Center (ISC) in Abu Dhabi, with a total prize pool of AED 70,000.
ISC Chairman D. Natarajan noted that the Gold Medal Championship will be a ranking event hosted by the UAE Badminton Federation.
“This is the 45th edition of the prestigious tournament. This has been included in the gold category, which is awarded only to elite ranking tournaments,” Natarajan told a news conference.
ISC Secretary General P. Sathyababu said that in addition to the elite series dedicated to international players, there are also junior and senior series open to all UAE residents.
“We are expecting a large number of entries. The main purpose of this competition is to inspire the spirit of badminton regardless of nationality.”
The junior series will run from January 13-22 in 20 categories, and the senior series will take place on January 28 in 15 categories.
This is followed by an elite series for international players.
Noushad Aboobaker, secretary of the ISC badminton division, said the matches will be held in different courts in the center’s two halls.
“The court meets international standards and is one of the best courts of its kind in the region. We have over 700 members in our badminton division.”
Hisham PA, Managing Director of Apex Trading and Managing Director of ISC, is hoping for a competitive tournament.
“For all badminton lovers, this will be a great opportunity to witness a major sporting event.”
