Island Arts Festival Brings Art and Entertainment to Carolina Beach

Carolina Beach, N.C. (WWAY) — The Island Arts Festival is expanding to two days this year at Pleasure Island, featuring art, music, vendors and more.

“The festival’s theme ‘I am Art’ is being celebrated through displays, hands-on events and performances, showing how art is all around us, within us and above us,” said Island Council Member and Festival Manager Carey Jones.

Festivalgoers are encouraged to participate in the “I Am Art” theme by donning creative headgear or costumes, Jones said.

The festival will kick off with a gallery night at the St. Paul United Methodist Community Center on Friday, May 5 from 5-10 p.m. and Saturday, May 6 at Lake Carolina Beach at 10 a.m. Continue around.

The event showcased more than 100 artists and performers over two days, with Friday’s gallery night highlighting award-winning artists, Latin music, beer, wine tasting and a stylized charcuterie board from artist Beth Bernstein.

The Saturday Outdoor Festival includes art sales, live art displays, performances and hands-on experiences. Entertainment and activities include:

  • new band

  • OMNI Percussion Ensemble
  • Cosplay costume design and production
  • Face Painting and SPFX Makeup
  • Live demo of Scarf It Up and Dye Smiling
  • and more!

The festival’s signature Imagination Station, located on a lake island, offers splash painting fun for kids.

This year’s festival marks the twelfth year for the interactive art event, which began as a gathering of several local artists.

It now houses some of the best arts and crafts artists, street performers and culinary artists in the region.

The Island Arts Council was established in 2011 to promote arts events, public art, local organizations and artists to increase awareness and appreciation of the rich arts and culture of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, and to promote the island as a
