He was officially diagnosed with leukemia on January 10.
After his release, Masalmah was transferred to the Israeli Hospital Hadassah in Jerusalem, where his health continued to deteriorate rapidly. A week ago, he was taken to Ramallah Istishari Hospital, where he died.
According to Addameer, a prison rights organization, there are 4,650 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons, including 200 children and 520 administrative detainees, who are being held without trial or charge.
Most Palestinians regard them as political prisoners detained because of Israeli military occupation or resistance.
According to the Palestinian Authority, more than 500 male and female Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons suffer from diseases, and dozens of them suffer from cancer.
