“We have officially opened the Israeli Embassy in Bahrain,” Lapid wrote on Twitter. “We agree that by the end of this year, the Bahraini Embassy in Israel will open.”

On Thursday, more than an hour before Rapid landed at Manama Airport, a Gulf Air flight took off from the opposite direction of Ben Gurion Airport, marking the first commercial flight between the two countries.

On an airplane painted with olive branch paintings and landing in Manama, Rapid met with King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Additional agreements were reached, including Morocco in December this year and Sudan in January this year.

Rapid also visited the Bahrain headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, which confronted Iranian ships during the tense situation of targets in the Tehran area.

Two-State Solution

Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdulatif Zayani and Lapid also held a press conference during which they signed a number of memorandums of understanding ranging from environmental protection to sports cooperation.

Zayani said: “Your visit is based on the significant progress we have made…and once again emphasizes our mission of spreading peace, stability and cooperation throughout the Middle East and achieving real and lasting security and prosperity for its people. Common desire.”

He added that Bahrain reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Lapid said that he is also a “loyal supporter of the two-state solution,” but emphasized that he is not speaking on behalf of the government.

“I think this is also the right solution for Israelis and Palestinians. Not everyone in our government thinks so,” he said.

The Palestinians condemned the agreement for abandoning a unified position that Arab countries can achieve peace only if Israel abandons the occupied land.

In Gaza, Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesman, said that the visit was an “encouragement” for what he called Israel’s “crimes against our people.”
