On Wednesday, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian in a raid in the occupied West Bank in what the military said was retaliating against the attacker but his family said it was an unprovoked shooting.

The army has carried out arrests and searches at multiple locations as part of a near-night security sweep following a series of deadly Palestinian street attacks in Israeli cities.
Tayeh’s twin brother, Hussain, told Reuters that Younis Tayeh, the 21-year-old slain man, left his home in the village of Tubas to try to find his uncle after hearing that he was being detained.
“I told him not to cross the road because the soldiers might be aiming. As soon as he crossed the road, he (a soldier) shot him immediately,” Taye said. “I tried to approach him but he (the soldier) shot me twice so I couldn’t get out.”
The military said in a statement that an improvised explosive device was thrown and shots were fired at the soldiers, who returned fire. There were no Israeli casualties. It said one person was arrested in Tubas and 24 elsewhere.
Tayeh’s family denied he was involved in the conflict. The Tubas resident said he worked in a car workshop and did not know he belonged to any Palestinian armed faction.
The West Bank, a territory that Palestinians hope will eventually become part of an independent state, has seen frequent violence by Palestinians, Israeli troops and Jewish settlers since U.S.-sponsored state-building talks with Israel broke down in 2014.
The diplomatic stagnation has damaged the credibility of the US-backed Palestinian Authority, which has limited autonomy and security control in the West Bank.
The Palestinian Authority believes Israel’s actions are aimed at weakening it.
“Last year the Israeli government made a very firm decision that we will not trust the Palestinian Authority and that we will personally approach all plans to perpetrate terror,” said Ram Ben-Barak, the foreign affairs chairman of the Knesset. people,” the National Defense Council told Ynet Radio.

Many of the Israeli attacks took place in Jenin, a stronghold of Palestinian militants.
Street attacks in Israel and the West Bank have killed 18 people. About 100 Palestinians were killed in the crackdown, including militants, civilians and those who had clashed with Israeli forces, the Palestinian health ministry said.
