The Ministry of Health stated that 38-year-old Imad Dweikat was “shot in the chest” in Beta.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health and medical personnel stated that during protests against illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli army shot and killed a Palestinian and wounded others.

The ministry said in a statement on Friday that 38-year-old Imad Ali Mohammad Dweikat was “shot in the chest” with live ammunition in the town of Beta and was pronounced dead at a hospital in nearby Nablus.

Beta often sees demonstrations against illegal Israeli occupation and settlement expansion, which often leads to confrontation.

The Israeli military said on Friday that 700 Palestinians gathered south of the Palestinian city of Nablus, burned tires and threw stones and petrol bombs at the army and border police.

The military said in a statement that the Israeli army “responded by dispersing the riots.” “We are aware of reports that a Palestinian was killed and some Palestinians were injured.”

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society’s ambulance service stated that 21 more Palestinians were shot and killed by the Israeli army, most of them with rubber-head bullets. It said in a statement that others were being treated for tear gas inhalation.

last Friday, Approximately 270 Palestinians were injured During the confrontation with the Israeli army during the Beta protests and during a person’s funeral The young Palestinian killed the day before, The Palestine Red Crescent Society reports.

Medical staff said that on July 23, 320 Palestinians were injured or inhaled tear gas during the confrontation between Beta and Israeli forces. A teenager shot by the Israeli army later died from his injuries.

The occupied West Bank is one of the territories where Palestinians seek to establish a state. Violence has been brewing there since negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis initiated by the United States broke down in 2014.

Palestinians protest almost daily in Beta, south of Nablus, to express their anger at the nearby outposts of illegal Israeli settlers.

Under an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, the settlers agreed to leave the outpost in July, after Palestinian demonstrations in the previous weeks often shrouded the outpost in thick smoke.

However, some buildings in the outpost still exist, locked and under military guard. The Palestinians who claimed the land where the outpost was located decided to continue the demonstration.

Israel occupied the West Bank during the Six-Day War in 1967, and all Jewish settlements there were considered illegal by most of the international community.

Nearly 500,000 people live with 2.8 million Palestinians in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
