An Israeli citizen arrested in Abu Dhabi ten days ago on charges of assaulting a police officer was released after paying a fine of 65,000 dirhams ($17,700) to the court.
The court had previously decided against imprisonment and instead ordered the deportation of 21-year-old Nachman Gabai, The Times of Israel reported. He was detained until his family could pay the fine.
Israeli lawyer Mordechai Tzivin, who helped Gabai’s release, told Valla: “I thank Abu Dhabi’s law enforcement system for its high human rights, good relations, and consideration and understanding that Nahman was wrongly involved in an insignificant incident.”
According to Israeli reports, the Israeli citizen was arrested outside the Abu Dhabi airport terminal while waiting for a connecting flight to India.

Gaby assaulted the officer during his eight-hour wait when a police car pulled up next to him and asked him to identify himself.
“He reacts poorly to stressful situations due to post-traumatic stress, and his reactions can be very unpleasant, but that’s his only sin,” Gaby’s mother told Marif before his release.
“The guy next to him said he was really panicking, but they explained that he seemed to have something to hide and he was afraid of what they would do to him. It was a misunderstanding that was getting more and more complicated.”
In September 2020, the UAE and Israel signed a US-sponsored deal to normalize relations. The normalization deal has drawn widespread condemnation from Palestinians, who say it ignores their rights and does not serve the Palestinian cause.
