Colombian superstar J Balvin apologized for his controversial music video for the song “Perra,” which showed him using a belt to lead two black women.

J Balvin created this song in collaboration with Dominican rapper Tokischa. This video deleted from YouTube was criticized for its images, including J Balvin leaning two black women on a leash, and Tokischa posing in the dog house on all fours.

according to NBC News, J Balvin issued an apology through his Instagram story: “I want to say sorry to anyone who feels offended, especially to the black female community.”

“That’s not me. I have always expressed tolerance, love and tolerance. I also like to support new artists. In this case, Tokischa is a woman who supports her people, her community and empowers women.”

J Balvin said he deleted the video last Sunday “as a form of respect” and explained that he apologized in response to continued criticism.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Tokischa stated that the music video directed by Raymi Paulus is “conceptual” and aims to emphasize the word game of the song.

“If you, as a creative person, have a song about dogs, you will create that world,” she said. “I understand people’s explanations, and I’m really sorry to make people feel offended. But at the same time, art is expression. It is creating a world.”

Paulus added that the music video was “never designed to promote racism or misogyny”.

In an open letter published earlier this month, Colombian Vice President Marta Lucia Ramirez called the visual effect of the song “sexism, racism, masculinity and After disgusting women, Balvin made an apology.
