On Wednesday, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar visited the Hindu temple under construction – Abu Dhabi’s first – and described it as a “symbol of peace, tolerance and harmony”.
Jaishankar, who arrived in the UAE on Wednesday for a three-day visit to the Gulf country, also praised the Indians for their efforts in building the temple.
“In Ganesh Chaturthi had the pleasure of visiting the BAPS Hindu temple under construction in Abu Dhabi. Great to see the rapid progress and deeply grateful for the input of all involved. Met the BAPS team, community supporters, devotees and workers on site ,” the minister said in a tweet.

He also met Sheikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, to thank him for his great support for the Indian community, yoga activities, cricket and cultural cooperation.
“Auspicious start of EAM @DrSJaishankar visit. EAM visited @BAPS @AbuDhabiMandir site and laid the foundation for its intricate architecture. Also commends all Indians for their efforts to build the iconic temple which is peaceful, tolerant and harmonious Symbol,” the Indian embassy in the UAE tweeted earlier.
The temple will be built on 55,000 square meters of land. The structure will be hand-carved and assembled in the UAE by Hindu temple artisans. This will be the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East.
While in the UAE, Jaishankar will hold talks with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed to review the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
