James Corden apologises to Ricky Gervais after he ‘inadvertently’ used a joke from the comics on his ‘Late Night Show’ verbatim.
The TV host’s apology comes after Ricky, 61, posted a clip of the James show on Halloween night in which he repeated a joke from the 2018 Netflix stand-up special “Human Nature.”
It’s about Twitter users outraged at a poster in a town square offering guitar lessons to illustrate how people can be offended by innocuous remarks.
James, 44, tweeted on Tuesday (11/11/22): “Inadvertently told a great Ricky Gervais joke on the show last night, apparently unaware it came from. Him. It’s great because it’s a Ricky Gervais joke. You can watch all of Ricky’s great specials on Netflix. Jx.”
Ricky retweeted a clip of Corden repeating his joke on “The Late Late Show” and said in a now-deleted tweet: “That bit about the town square ad for guitar lessons was awesome.”
The comic says he deleted the message because he “started feeling bad for James.”
James is making this joke talking about Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter.
“That’s what I think when you see Elon Musk talking about Twitter – he says, ‘Well, it’s a town square,’ but it’s not.
“Because if someone put up a poster in a town square saying guitar lessons were available, you wouldn’t have people in the town square saying, ‘I don’t want to play guitar! I want to play piano, you bastard!
“Well, that sign isn’t for you, it’s for someone else—you don’t have to be mad about it.”
Ricky said when he joked that people were offended by everything on Twitter: “They choose to read my tweets and see it as a person. It’s like walking into a town square and seeing a big notice board, There’s an announcement there — guitar lessons — and you’re like, “But I don’t want a fucking guitar lesson.”
“Well, that’s not for you, you go away. Don’t worry.”
“The Late Late Show” has removed the video of James joking from its Twitter page.
James has been branded a “little idiot” by the owner of New York’s Balthazar restaurant for allegedly being very rude to staff over an egg omelet, and he has been in trouble.
The host said he was trying to protect his wife from a “severe” allergy to egg whites when he complained about their order.
