James McAvoy plans to quit acting.
The 43-year-old “Filthy” actor says he wants to spend more time with his family instead, according to the Observer on Sunday (11/12/22) after his recent breakup with new wife Lisa Liberatti (Lisa Liberati) has a son.
James, who already has a 12-year-old boy named Brendan with ex-wife Anne-Marie Duff, told the publication: “I put in a lot of work and I love it. But I don’t want to live to work.
“This industry is great, it’s given me a good life. But it survives on the sacrificial nature of performance. The film industry or the TV industry, they’re just consuming you.
“Do I keep chasing, do I keep improving, do I keep trying to climb the ladder, the mountain, whatever. Or do I just keep enjoying the show — just take my foot off the pedal.
“And not feel like I’m never going to work again. Or I’m going to lose motivation and if I don’t take every good job I come across, let’s say I’ve got it. You need to slow down a bit.
“If you’re a filmmaker every week, every month of the year, it’s impossible to be the family you are now. Theater is different – if you do a lot, many plays, you have Six nights out, always.
“But you’re there more during the day. It’s really movies and TV – it just f****** wears you out. It’s also a joy, and I love it. But I can’t spend all my days spent on set.”
James also shared his fear of ending up like Bill Murray’s jaded movie star role in “Lost in Translation,” suggesting he was “estranged” from his wife and children.
It was confirmed earlier this year that the “X-Men” actor married Lisa after they started dating in 2018, and they met on the set of “Split.”
