Jasem Al Hosani made history by becoming the first Emiratis to win a gold medal at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Junior Championships.

“Whatever I have achieved today is because of the generous support of His Highness and our federation, this is the first time the UAE has won the IMMAF Championship, which is very special for my country and for me,” said Al Hosani .
Al Hosani, a jiu-jitsu blue belt, won his first three bouts by submission before beating Bowers in the final by a referee’s decision.
“All fights are tough. My jiu-jitsu skills and martial arts experience come in handy. I will continue to train jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts, and compete in both combat sports.”
Ibrahim Al Hosani, a former member of the UAE national jiu-jitsu team and one of the current national team coaches and coach of Sharjah Self-Defense Club Jasem Jiu-Jitsu, praised the young man’s dedication.
“What he achieved today means a lot to the UAE,” Ibrahim said. “He made history by becoming the first Emiratis to win a gold medal in the youth world.
“Jasem is hardworking, focused and dedicated to his work and the results remain to be seen.
“I think this is just the beginning and there will be more games in the next two days.”
Abdulla Al Darmaki won silver in the 40kg category in the 14-15 age group. Another jiu-jitsu player who won his first three bouts by submission before losing to Tajikistan’s Farhodi Davratali.
Zayed Al Hammadi and Zayed Al Dhabari each won bronze for the UAE on Monday’s opening day.
Maryam Alaleeli has lost two matches, but she is the first Emirati woman to compete at the World Youth Championship.
