Jay Leno reportedly suffered “severe burns,” but said he was doing well.
“I was severely burned by the gasoline fire,” Leno said in a statement to Variety.
“I’m fine. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”
The cause and timing of the fire are not yet known.
The former Tonight Show host is known for his famous car collection, which he keeps in a garage in Burbank, north of Los Angeles.
Leno’s public relations and production company did not immediately respond to email and phone requests from The Associated Press.
People magazine reported earlier Monday, citing an email sent to attendees, that Reynolds, 72, was scheduled to attend a financial conference in Las Vegas on Sunday, but due to a “serious medical emergency Circumstances” and canceled.
The comedian took over NBC’s “Tonight” after longtime host Johnny Carson retired in 1992.
Leno was replaced by Conan O’Brien in 2009, but when the show’s ratings declined, NBC backed off and brought Leno back as host in 2010.
He held the position until Jimmy Fallon took over in 2014.
Leno turned his love of cars into the CNBC series Jay Leno’s Garage and now hosts the revival of the game show You Bet Your Life.
