OSCEOLA – Renowned violinist and mandolin player Jeff Wisor will perform at the North American Fiddler Hall of Fame and Museum on Sunday, September 24th from 2-5pm. Wisor is a native of Corning and now lives in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Wisor began his career at the age of 15 when he began playing violin for square dancing at Brookside Hall in Tioga Pa. Returning to Corning after a stint in the Armed Forces, he played with the Corning Area Band and won the MD Bluegrass Championship in 1971. After moving to Washington, D.C., he was played by award-winning singer-songwriter Liz Meyer and guitar maestro Danny Gatton recruited.
Wisor won the Smithsonian Violin Championships in 1972 and later formed the progressive bluegrass band Night Sun, which won the 1977 Muleskinner News “Promising Vocal Group of the Year” award. He toured with the country’s Donna Fargo before joining the David Bromberg band, where he stayed for 29 years. Along the way, he also appeared on The Hank Thompson Show, recorded with Bob Dylan, and collaborated with Jeff Wither and West Coast Wise, Stir Fry and Garcia Glass.
The Hall of Fame grounds at 1121 Cummings Road in Osceola are accessible to persons with disabilities. There is plenty of free parking on the left side of the shared driveway. The concert will take place in a pavilion with a dance floor, free seating, and may be closed if the weather is bad. There is an adjoining children’s play area and a brick patio with picnic tables. Fiddlers Kitchen offers beverages and prepackaged snacks. The site is pet-free, smoke-free and non-toxic.
