Last week, the authorities eased restrictions on certain industries due to the decline in new Covid-19 cases in the country.
After the UAE authorities increased their operational capacity to 100% before the Dubai Expo in 2020, UAE hotels are re-hiring.
Local hoteliers told Khaleej Times that due to visa and travel restrictions, most of the recruitment is done locally. Due to restrictions on flights to the Indian subcontinent and other countries, these countries are the main source of manpower for the private sector in the UAE, and hotel and catering companies are looking for alternative markets to meet their human resource needs.
Last week, as the country’s new Covid-19 cases fell, the National Crisis and Emergency Management Agency (NCEMA) eased restrictions on certain industries, including hotels, restaurants, conventions and exhibitions, and public transportation.
Sahil Thakur, Sales and Marketing Director of Revier Hotel, said the hotel expects a busy season to begin at the end of next month.
“We can see that the job market is opening up again and the hotel is looking forward to re-hiring staff. This will be related to the city’s business needs. As the border is opening and restrictions are being relaxed, we all expect these needs to grow in the coming weeks,” he said.
He pointed out that the UAE is still hiring internally because many countries are on the red list and it is impossible to import manpower from these places.
“Once the Covid-19 agreement changes and people are allowed to enter the UAE, hotels will definitely turn to these traditional markets.”
James Wrenn, associate director of hotel consulting services at Colliers Mena, said that the move to operate at full capacity is welcome, especially for resort hotels, which continue to show strong demand during the pandemic—especially from the domestic market. However, more corporate-centric hotels are lagging behind in recovery.

“In terms of staffing in 2020 and 2021, due to reduced demand and operational constraints, many hotels have been forced to lay off staff—especially those that have traditionally focused on the commercial or corporate market,” he said.
“However, many hotels are able to retain employees through extended vacation plans and other efforts in order to keep employees employed and guarantee their availability at the beginning of the recovery. In general, Dubai does not seem to have this type of North American and European hotel Currently experiencing a shortage of personnel,” he added.
