With technology and artificial intelligence increasingly the way forward, many students choose a computer science degree. The UAE’s drive to advance technology through initiatives such as the National Coders Program and the Million Arab Coders has helped drive exponential growth in demand for the sector.
“The BA in Computer Science allows students to enter a number of different technology-related fields, including artificial intelligence and web development,” said Mohamed Sohail, admissions coordinator at the University of West London.
At Amity University in Dubai, the Bachelor of Science – Forensic Science degree is one of the most popular degrees. This field of study relies on natural sciences such as chemistry and biology and combines them with the latest technology to help authorities solve crimes.
“This is a professional degree that leads students to careers with respected agencies such as the Dubai Police, as our graduates go on to become crime scene investigators and forensic analysts,” said Brendan Vyner, director of business development and student recruitment at the university.
The country’s push to increase the role of Emiratis in the workplace has led to the growing popularity of humanities programs such as international studies among Emirati nationals.
“International Studies gives students an insight into political science and the changing dynamics of the world,” said Doa Qutaifan, Admissions Officer, American University of Sharjah (AUS). “The degree helps students find employment in government and national service.”
The increasing opportunities available in the field of cybersecurity attract many students to the field. As the world becomes more digitized, the number of attacks on networked systems has also increased.
Some international figures show that there is an acute shortage of trained cybersecurity professionals to meet demand in the field.
