Few talk show hosts are as iconic as the duo of the year Kelly Ripa and later Regis Philbin.
But despite how lighthearted their on-screen chemistry looks, Ripa, 51, revealed Living with Regis and Kelly not easy.

Ripa explained that getting along with her co-host was difficult initially. She claims to be treated very differently from Philbin, even though they were supposed to be equal.
“I don’t want to feel like I’m bashing anyone, or that I’m disrespecting people. But I also want people to know it’s not a piece of cake. It took me years to earn my place there and get the often given Stuff for the people I work with. Including the office and a place to keep my computer.
Ripa continued: “The biggest misconception is that everything comes easy, people think I just showed up one day and got a job, I’ve lived happily ever after and everything is perfect now. But that’s not the case.”

After her third time as a guest co-host and countless comments telling her the show wasn’t looking for a second permanent host, Ripa finally got an offer – but it came with a caveat: “They want you to know your The boss is.”
“It was very ominous and it didn’t feel good,” she told the outlet.
Ripa eventually joined the production full-time in 2001, and after Philbin retired in 2011, she took over Ryan Seacrest.
But first impressions are everything, and the show certainly left a tricky impression on Ripa.

She later told an interviewer that her agent also mentioned that the show didn’t want her to “bring an entourage,” so on her first day as a permanent co-host, she brought only two.
“I came with my hair and makeup,” she recalls. “It’s not uncommon for people on TV to show up.”
But before she took to the stage, Philbin greeted her and the show’s executive producer, Michael Gehrmanwith: “Uh, oh, Gehrman, it has a follower.”
“I felt bad,” she admitted. “He was probably trying to be funny, but at the same time, it felt like a bunch. I knew he probably didn’t want a co-host, but the network wanted me to be a co-host, and I didn’t think I should pass up that opportunity. I don’t think it’s fair to him. But that’s not fair to me either. “
Ripa also admits that she enjoys spending time with Philbin outside the studio, despite their rough start as colleagues.
“Getting off the camera and outside that building, that’s another story,” she revealed. “I enjoyed the time we spent together. Once we were on vacation at the same resort and he came to a dinner I hosted – one of my favorite nights Life. I’ve never laughed so hard. ”
Ripa holds no grudges about their past. She credits Philbin with teaching her everything she needs to know about the industry and still considers Philbin “the best storyteller in the world.”
“If I could be a tenth, I’d be happy,” she admits. “It lets the audience go for a ride with you, remembering that you are always the subject of jokes.”
“I loved him and I still do,” she noted.
