Keryas Paper Industry has announced that it will establish its kraft paper liner project in the UAE with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes per annum (MTPA), with an investment of US$40 million in the pulp and paper manufacturing sector.
During the just-concluded Propaper Dubai 2022, Keryas Paper Industry Group also signed a memorandum of understanding with C2C Consultancy of India to complete the full design and engineering of the proposed project.
The project aims to produce low GSM kraft wrapping paper with a basis weight of 60 to 80 as anchor GSM. The plant will also have the capacity to produce 150 GSM basis weight kraft wrapping paper. This project helps fill the gap in market demand, especially for the lower GSM range.
The project, which will be one of the largest in the GCC countries, is expected to start production within 18 to 20 months, according to a statement from Keryas Group.
Keryas Paper Industry has an existing production line in Sohar, Oman with a capacity of 180,000 tonnes/year, which will start production in July 2021. The existing production line has achieved more than 120% of the designed capacity in a short period of time, and the final product is of high quality.
In view of continued development and sustainable development, Keryas ordered advanced cleaning systems from Europe and the United States for its drying screen area to ensure finished product quality and improve machine performance.
To preserve nature and reduce vulnerability to the environment, Keryas has invested in an egg tray manufacturing unit to handle sludge waste from the papermaking process. –arab trade news agency
