Kesha’s mum Pebe Sebert has revealed that she wrote controversial lyrics about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in her daughter’s song “Cannibal.”
The 2010 song is back in the spotlight following the release of Netflix’s new series “Monsters: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” starring Evan Peters, and many believe that the song’s melody will be revived. The multiple killers named for the popular song Victim Insensitivity star sang: “It’s too sweet and you’ll die. Yes, I’ll pull Jeffrey Dahmer.”
Pepe has spoken out now, insisting the song is about Keisha herself – not Dahmer – and that she only included his name in the song because it fits the rhyme. In a video posted on TikTok, she explained: “Some background on the lyrics that are haunting people after 12 years. All opinions are valid. Not trying to disappoint anyone, just more information.
“The whole Jeffrey Dahmer lyrics in ‘Cannibal’ is a big controversy right now. I guess I just want to say a few words because that’s what I wrote in ‘Cannibal’.
“At the time, Kesha and the other writer were too young to even know who Jeffrey Dahmer was. The way it happened, literally, was I had a rhyming program called Master Writer for Songwriters. We were looking for ‘goner’ ‘, the most widely rhymed ending is Jeffrey Dahmer. I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is a perfect lyric.'”
Pepe went on to insist that the songwriter “had no intention of harming anyone” and that she felt sorry for all the victims and their families.
She added: “Don’t be insensitive to anyone whose family is involved and who has lost a loved one. At the time, it was a song we were writing about Keisha. It was a half-joking funny song. It wasn’t practical It’s about cannibalism. It’s just a headline.
“I feel sorry for those who lost their families in this tragedy. We certainly never intended to hurt or make anyone feel bad. There is a [series] Now that it’s out, it’s kind of catchy. This song has been out for over 10 years, maybe almost 12 years. This isn’t something we’ve written about recently. “
