Abu Dhabi has joined other mature “bicycle cities” around the world, including Bergen, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark; Glasgow, Scotland; Paris, France, Vancouver, Canada; Yorkshire, England.

Under the Bike Abu Dhabi platform, the emirate’s infrastructure will be significantly improved, including the extension of the emirate’s 300-kilometer bicycle network to more than 1,000 kilometers. The network expansion includes the 109-kilometer Abu Dhabi Ring Road, an isolated bicycle lane that connects major destinations throughout the city, further improving mobility and encouraging people to live healthier lives through safe and sustainable transportation Way.

There are also plans to build Velodrome Hudayriyat-a venue for 3,500 people, which will provide more opportunities to host high-profile international and local cycling events. After the unveiling ceremony, to commemorate this moment, the first ever Abu Dhabi cycling community cycling event was held on the Hudayriyat Bicycle Path.

Abu Dhabi has a rich cycling tradition and a comprehensive cycling center, including 28 kilometers of bicycle trails on Hudayriyat Island and 40 kilometers of bicycle trails in Al Wathba, providing world-class facilities for cyclists of all levels-from Group rides to single rides and families. The bicycle community in Abu Dhabi also has access to a well-developed network of bicycle lanes, which was recently expanded and enhanced by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT). The world-famous Yas Marina Circuit Formula One circuit on Yas Island is open twice a week for free training for cyclists of all levels.

Abu Dhabi has also become the center of world-class cycling events, hosting various stages of the UAE Tour, UCI World Tour events and national road championships, as well as annual regular events for amateurs.

After the Cycling City ceremony, Abu Dhabi was announced as the venue for the UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in 2022 and 2024 and the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in 2028.

A new community cycling event has also been launched: Abu Dhabi Al Ain Classic is a one-day race for UAE clubs and amateurs. It will start in Abu Dhabi and end in Al Ain.

Prior to this, the Abu Dhabi Sports Commission recently announced that it will cooperate with RCS Sport to organize the next three UAE Tour events.

The Emirate’s well-developed bicycle club ecosystem provides opportunities for cyclists of all levels-from top competitions to weekly group riding and casual social riding. The Abu Dhabi Cycling Club operates under the protection of the Abu Dhabi Sports Commission, which is involved in organizing and hosting elite-level competitions and community events.
