Kia launched the Kia EV9, its first three-row electric flagship SUV, bringing fresh thinking, design and technology to the industry and leading the brand’s rapid transformation into a sustainable mobility solutions provider.

Based on the game-changing Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV9 ensures sporty performance and complements a targeted all-electric range of over 541 kilometers according to the World Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Ultra-fast 800-volt charging capability enables the EV9 battery pack to be fully charged in approximately 15 minutes to provide the vehicle with a range of 239 kilometers.

technological breakthrough

Among the many technological breakthroughs are the Highway Driving Driving (HDP) system to be offered in the Kia EV9 GT series in the future, enabling conditional Level 3 autonomous driving in select markets.

It also introduces the Kia Connect store, which enables customers to purchase digital features and services on demand, giving them the flexibility to choose the features they want and continuously upgrade the EV9’s capabilities through over-the-air (OTA) updates at any time.

President and CEO Ho Sung Song said, “The Kia EV9 transcends every aspect of traditional SUV thinking and represents the pinnacle of Kia’s design and engineering capabilities. The EV9 was created to meet the needs of all members of the family, and it also leads Kia A rapid transformation into a provider of sustainable mobility solutions, not only because of its advanced EV architecture, but also through the vast amount of recycled and sustainable materials used in its creation.”

Kia will start taking pre-orders for the EV9 for the Korean market in the second quarter of 2023. The Kia EV9 will go on sale in select global markets from the second half of this year.

Design: Reshaping the SUV User Experience

Guided by the brand’s “Opposites United” design philosophy, the EV9 reimagines the all-electric SUV with a unique balance of natural and modern elements. The “Bold for Nature” design pillar, which inspired the incorporation of elements from the natural world and the physical world, played a key role in shaping the EV9’s design.

The exterior of the Kia EV9 offers a serene sense of modern calm, befitting a refined electric vehicle for a new era of sustainable mobility. The car has a wheelbase of 3,100 millimeters and a choice of 21-, 20- or 19-inch wheels. With an overall length of 5,010 mm, a width of 1,980 mm and a height of 1,755 mm, it presents a bold and modern look while maintaining its unique character.

Kia EV9 offers a variety of seat options to meet different needs. It provides seven-seater and six-seater configurations and a variety of second-row seat options, a total of four, suitable for different scenarios such as moving, charging, and resting. The first row is equipped with leisure seats to ensure a comfortable resting posture.

The second row provides four seat options for the first time among global EV models, including 3-seater bench, basic, relaxing and swivel double independent seats, providing customers with a variety of ways to choose from.

Sustainability: setting new standards

Kia’s strategic commitment to be a leader in sustainable mobility and its announced roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 goes beyond offering zero-emission electric vehicle drivetrains.

They also include the materials used in the vehicle’s construction, and the EV9 takes this to the next level, applying environmentally friendly materials that set new standards for sustainable mobility.

The Kia EV9 marks a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first model to adopt the brand’s three-step design sustainability strategy, beginning with the phase-out of leather and applying ten “must-have” sustainability items to all new Kia vehicles. models, and increasing use of bio-based materials such as corn, sugar cane and natural oils. Kia aims to increase the proportion of recycled plastic it uses to 20 percent by 2030.

The color matching of EV9 draws inspiration from the four core elements of light, air, earth and water in nature, establishes a connection with the beauty of nature, and integrates it into the design concept of EV9.

The EV9’s interior comes in six different combinations, from light gray to elegant natural tones, to the sporty version of the GT range.

A full range of multiple zero-emission travel solutions

The EV9 has a choice of electrified powertrain configurations based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and utilizing Kia’s fourth-generation battery technology. Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) standard models offer a 76.1-kWh battery exclusively, while RWD Long-range and all-wheel-drive (AWD) models come with a 99.8-kWh battery.

Preliminary figures suggest the RWD Long Range model will be powered by a 150 kW/350 Nm electric motor, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. The standard RWD EV9 is also powered by a single electric motor, albeit with a more powerful 160 kW/350 Nm, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds.

The AWD variant is equipped with two electric motors, which together unleash a combined power output of 283 kW and a combined torque of 600 Nm. This powerful combination enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds. An even higher level of performance is available with the optional Boost feature, available later at the Kia Connect store. Combined torque increases to a staggering 700 Nm, enabling the EV9 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. — trade arab news agency
