Rana Motors, the official distributor of Kia Corporation in Ghana, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art assembly plant in Ghana, marking a major milestone in the company’s expansion strategy on the African continent.

The assembly plant, the largest in Ghana and the region, assembles six models and will be expanded to ten models in the coming months. The Amasaman facility occupies a land area of 65,000 square meters, with a built-up area of 16,000 square meters and a living area of over 1,000 square meters.

expansion plan

In its proportions, the plant will have an initial operating capacity of 35,000 vehicles, with plans to expand to 70,000 vehicles. Due to the size of the factory, approximately 6,000 tons of cement and 3,500 tons of steel were used in construction.

Kia is currently producing six models — the Kia Cerato, Kia K5, Kia Sonet, Kia Seltos, Kia Sportage and Kia Sorento — a portfolio that will soon expand to ten models, including the K2700, K3000, Carens and Picanto .

The launch event was attended by President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Michael Okyere Baafi, Ghanaian Regional Minister Henry Quartey and other key leaders of the country.

Kia’s assembly plant in Amasaman is a testament to the strong partnership between South Korea and Ghana, combining Korean engineering with Ghanaian dedication, competence and enthusiasm. Equipped with the latest technology and staffed by a team of highly skilled engineers and technicians, the factory meets Kia’s stringent international standards to deliver only the highest quality vehicles to African consumers.

Yaser Shabsogh, Chief Operating Officer, Kia Middle East and Africa Regional Headquarters, said: “This facility not only meets the current needs of customers in Ghana, but also actively anticipates their future needs. demand. We are excited about the opportunities this expansion will bring.”

Ghana and South Korea allied

Essam Odaymat, CEO of Rana Motors, expressed the importance of the assembly plant in fostering stronger ties between Ghana and the Republic of Korea, saying, “We are proud of the role we play in strengthening the relationship between Ghana and the Republic of Korea by promoting excellence “

In line with the brand’s vision to be a provider of sustainable mobility solutions, the assembly plant addresses key global challenges such as water scarcity and energy consumption. Kia and Rana Motors have implemented a sustainable approach to water use with a rainwater harvesting system that captures and reuses runoff for daily plant operations.

Additionally, the factory’s sustainable energy approach includes natural light, ventilation systems, and insulation to reduce energy consumption. In the next phase of the project, solar panels will be installed on the roof of the factory, allowing the factory to sustainably generate energy to cover all of its energy consumption. — trade arab news agency
