Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) said a pair of orcas, also known as killer whales, had been spotted in UAE waters.

This is the first time a toothed whale belonging to the family of marine dolphins has been spotted near Abu Dhabi.

The EAD said the killer whale was spotted off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

It also said orcas are among the most traveled of marine wildlife, adapting to cooler climates and warmer waters.

“Although this is rare, their frequent visits to Abu Dhabi waters is a testament to the healthy marine life that calls Abu Dhabi home,” it added.

An orca has been spotted in Dubai waters off Jebel Ali, Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said on Wednesday.

“An orca was spotted in Jebel Ali (Dubai) today,” Sheikh Hamdan wrote on Instagram.

“Ocras generally do not pose a threat to humans, however we urge the public to maintain a safe distance when wildlife is spotted and to alert the Abu Dhabi Government call center on 800 555 if they notice anything unusual,” the EAD said.

Ocras and dolphins are closely related.

Killer whales were named “killer whales” after ancient mariners observed groups of them preying on larger whales.

They called the orcas “asesina ballenas,” or “whale killers”—a term that was eventually changed to the simpler “killer whales.”

Orcas are top predators, which means they have no natural enemies.

They hunt in packs, and like wolves, they are also at the top of the food chain.

Netizens have shared their excitement about the discovery.

Karo Domarańczyk wrote on Instagram: “How could they be in AD? They are usually found in cold waters. Amazing.”

Kerry said, “Wow, beautiful. Thanks for sharing this information.”

According to experts, killer whales thrive in both cold and warm climates.
