King Charles is advertising a £40,000-a-year garden manager.
The perfect candidate would have to be “passionate about plants” for the 39-hour work week at Buckingham Palace, according to an advertisement revealed by the Daily Mail on Monday night. (31.10.22)
The advertisement on the Royal website said: “As Garden Manager you will be responsible for the maintenance and display of Buckingham Palace Gardens to a high standard.
“You’d be proud to see thousands of people enjoying them at a garden party.”
It added that managers would care for gardens that “thousands of people will appreciate” and offer opportunities to work for “world-renowned institutions”.
The applicants were also told they would play an “important role” in “shaping the future of the Royal Gardens”, with responsibilities also including lawn maintenance and care of shrub, herb and rose borders.
Windsor Castle is also hiring a £38,000-a-year garden and nursery manager, with the same deadline for applications as the Buckingham Palace job.
An advertisement for the position states: “As Garden Manager, you will be responsible for the maintenance and display of the Windsor Castle gardens and grounds, as well as the management of operating the nursery…Committed to gardening, you will focus on delivering our garden conservation programme and leading New professional projects to protect and enhance the rich biodiversity of our gardens.”
The ad follows reports that Charles wants to streamline his coronation as part of his plan to provide Britain with a “value for money” monarchy.
