Sharjah: West Indies gave themselves confidence ahead of World Cup qualifiers by beating UAE in their first ODI on Sunday, with Brandon King breaking a run 112.
The visitors beat the Emirates for 202 before chasing down the target with 14.4 runs to secure a seven-wicket victory.
West Indies are preparing for their World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe on June 18, which also features the UAE.
The two-time world champions have never failed to make it to the global stage, but only two of the 10 teams in the qualifiers will make it to the World Cup in India later this year.
“Kim is an outstanding player and I think he could have scored more early in his career,” said West Indies skipper Sheehope.
“But happy for him. He saw an opportunity to move the game forward and it was nice to see him get his first hundred today.”
Seamer Keemo Paul was picked 3-34 by the West Indies bowlers as the hosts failed to strike their offside despite 58 counters from Ali Naseer.
Opener King completed the total, easily reaching his maiden ODI ton and hitting 12 fours and four sixes.
The second ODI will be played in Dubai on Tuesday, with the third and final game also on Friday.
