Manila — Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Coco” Pimentel III applauded President Ferdinand “Bonbon” Marcos Jr. And United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan decided to pardon three Filipinos convicted in the UAE.
Pimentel said this “act of compassion and mercy” extended to three Filipinos, two of whom face the dire consequences of death row, “a testament to the true friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and the UAE.”
Pimentel praised the two leaders for “working together to secure pardons for convicted Filipinos.”
“I congratulate President Marcos and thank the UAE government for this good news. I am sure this significant development will further strengthen the ties between our country and the UAE,” said the former Senate President.
“President Marcos has shown his determination and unwavering dedication to help our cababayas and ensure justice for convicted Filipinos overseas,” Pimentel said.
“The Marcos administration’s strong diplomatic ties and effective communications have made this cause a great success. His efforts have brought great comfort to the families of the convicted Filipinos,” Pimentel added.
Pimentel also thanked the UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, Mohammad Obaid Salem Al Qatam Al Dhabi, for conveying the great news.
“The ambassador’s role in facilitating communication between the two countries has been crucial in ensuring the success of this humanitarian effort,” Pimentel said.
Meanwhile, Pimentel reiterated his gratitude to the UAE government for its generous aid and donations in support of families affected by the recent Albay Mayon riots.
The UAE recently donated 50 tonnes of relief supplies and food to families evacuated due to the unrest at Mayon Volcano.
