KT Exclusive: How 3D Maps Will Help Dubai Tourists Adjust Their Itinerary-News

[ad_1]

The city’s geographic information system (GIS) center is the brain behind ambitious smart projects

Now, thanks to an ambitious project conceived and underway by the Geographic Information System (GIS) Center of the Dubai Municipality, visitors can carefully plan their trip to Dubai at the last minute.

Mahra Alketbi, the project director of the program, emphasized its outstanding features in an exclusive interview with Khaleej Times.

“The new project of the GIS Center will provide updated data on the road network, which will make it easier for tourists to plan how to use the transportation network to move within Dubai. This will make it easier for them to plan their trips,” she said.

“In addition, it will also provide the latest data for many facilities that tourists are interested in, such as parks, beaches, historical and natural attractions, and shopping centers,” she added.

Advanced aerial photography projects are being implemented using specialized survey aircraft.

The Pan-Dubai project, including Hada, is in line with the instructions of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Committee. This ambitious project aims to transform the emirate into one of the world’s leading smart cities,” Alketbi said.

A two-propeller GeoDubai two-seater aircraft carrying a pilot and a technical support staff is equipped with a 150-megapixel high-resolution camera for aerial photography with an accuracy of up to 10 centimeters (cm).

The most advanced cameras provide wider aerial coverage.

The most advanced camera

The ultra-high resolution camera has an innovative back-illuminated sensor that can further improve image quality even in low light conditions.

These cameras are designed to mount one of seven interchangeable RS lenses, ranging from 32 to 150 millimeters (mm).

The iXM-RS150F and iXM-RS100F cameras provide options for shooting multiple areas of Dubai in one day.

The lens’ integrated leaf shutter also provides high capture speeds for a range of lighting conditions.

Five life cycles

The project will generate a two-dimensional (3D) geospatial model to update the base map and inventory of Dubai government agency assets.

The collection of aerial photographs and geographic data for the Emirates is part of the broader mission of the GIS Center.

Alketbi said that the project will go through multiple life cycles.

She added that initially, it was connected to ground control points via the Global Positioning System (GPS).

“In the second step, the route and altitude to be followed by the pilot will be determined. Aerial photography is the third step, using the most advanced digital camera,” she said.

“Finally, the images and data will be sorted and analyzed through the application of advanced technology,” Alketbi said.

Announcement on the availability of 3D maps on digital screens is awaiting.

The completion of the highly anticipated project will further transform Dubai, making it one of the smartest cities in the world.
