Lakeside Academy of Dance Annual Spring Concert – “That’s Entertainment!”

[ad_1]

The Lakeside Academy of Dance hosted its annual Spring Dance Concert on the last weekend in April under the direction of Pam Ellis. This year’s theme is “This Is Entertainment!” and with the help of volunteers and some very hard-working dancers, the show is just that.

There were nearly 50 dancers, some of whom did several dances, and there were a lot of moving parts, but that’s what the Lakeside performers and experienced volunteer staff are used to. All of the dance classes, costumes and lighting design at the Rangeley Region Health and Wellness Center make for a much-anticipated finale each year and each year it never disappoints.

Over the years, young dancers have chosen their preferred style. Some choose ballet, tap, jazz, or pointe dancing, and some have difficulty choosing, so prefer to take more than one class each season. For some, they took many classes and graduated with the coveted Lakeside Dance Academy jacket. This year, the talented young lady is Liz Robare, and her performance matched her personality in an impressive and stylish way.

Another former student, Lily Webber, also teaches creative movement, the first dancers in the Rangeley area. I say the Rangeley area because I know at least one family who traveled from Phillips to take advantage of the LDA product.

Every year I take pictures during the final rehearsal so I can move around without getting in the way of the audience. It’s because of these hours during rehearsals that I’m in awe of seeing how much work goes into wrangling the kids, adjusting the lights, keeping track of every hair tie and tap shoe.

Then, when the curtain parted, I wondered how many small towns are lucky enough to see dancers from preschool through high school each year in one huge show. We are very lucky.

A performance like this would not be possible without the efforts of the dancers, the parents who pick them up, the volunteers, and those who support Rangeley Friends of the Arts, whose scholarships and student lesson plans make it possible for more students to attend. Thanks to everyone who continues to support these efforts.
