Layla Kardan is both the creative mind behind Papillon, Dubai’s premier cabaret club, and a top performer. Combining the world of fine dining and a spectacular musical ensemble, the venue ignites the tentacles of an urban entertainment phenomenon. Papillon is often imitated, but never copied.

The thing about show business is that aside from reportedly not having a business like it, the show has to go on all the time. Layla and restaurant partner Hamdan Al Khafaji now have their spotlight firmly fixed on a new stage… Abu Dhabi. Penelope’s Brasserie & Jazz Bar Américain, located on the appropriately dramatic Riviera waterfront in Yas Marina, is poised to revolutionize the capital’s social scene.
Penelope’s plans to open its doors for the first time on the F1 weekend (starting 17 November), with dazzling live jazz, grand Gallic cuisine and Bar Américain-inspired craft cocktails. The entertainment was co-conceived by experiential architect Eddie Ghazal, who was responsible for the whimsy of the Dubai Canary Club and Tikis rooftop and lounge.
Nice to be Nice
The guiding aesthetic of Penelope’s Brasserie & Jazz Bar Américain is an Art Deco ode to the golden age of Côte d’Azur cinema. The spiritual home of the jets of the 1950s and 60s, and the destination of choice for fashion icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Sergi Gainsborough, Brigitte Bardot, Mick Jagger and Grace Kelly. Penelope’s invites you to relive this glitz and glamour while paying homage to the nomadic jazz tours of St Tropez, Cannes, Monaco and Nice.
We can’t wait to see what Layla and Hamdan bring to the space, and we are promised “one of a kind” – a paradigm shift in performance art in Abu Dhabi. We believe it.
