Leaders and worshipers of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, pray for Eid al-Fitr

Leaders and believers everywhere Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday welcome Eid al-Fitr, Prayers and thanks.

Muslims across Saudi Arabia held Eid prayers in the early hours of Friday, as “worshipers flocked to well-prepared mosques and open spaces across the kingdom to pray,” the Saudi news agency SPA reported.

His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, delivered Eid prayers at Al Badee Musallah in Sharjah this morning. (Wan)

In a separate statement, the SPA said Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi crown prince and prime minister, also joined worshipers gathered at Mecca’s Grand Mosque for Eid prayers.

The first day of Eid begins on Friday after the new moon is seen in Saudi Arabia.

The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, Sudan, Jordan and Egypt also declared the first day of Eid al-Fitr to be Friday.

In Medina, throngs of worshipers performed Eid prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque, led by Imam Dr Sheikh Abdulbari al-Tubbaiti, the SPA said.

Across the UAE, leaders also led prayers to welcome Eid al-Fitr.

Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Fujairah, was in Fujairah’s Sheikh Zayed on Friday morning, state news agency WAM reported. The Eid prayers were held at the Grand Mosque.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, ruler of Ras al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, ruler of Umm al Qaiwain, and Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, also led prayers on Friday morning, welcoming Eid – fit, WAM added.

Eid al-Fitr celebrations follow the end of Ramadan, which lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on when the new moon occurs.

Muslims follow a lunar calendar with 12 months and 354 or 355 days in a year.

Employees in the kingdom’s private and non-profit sectors will be given a four-day paid holiday, starting when they leave work on Thursday.

In the UAE, the Eid al-Fitr holiday for federal and private sector employees began on April 20. The holiday has been extended to Shawwal 3 on April 23.
