Gwen Kelley, a librarian at the East Shore Regional Library in Metairie specializing in genealogy, will host a series of 15 sessions for beginners and intermediate students starting in January Genealogy seminar.
The free course is designed as an introduction to basic genealogy research.
All events are held Wednesdays at the East Shore Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie, from 1-3 pm. These lessons will focus on the following genealogy issues:
- January 4: U.S. Census
- January 11: Important notes
- January 18: Newspapers and obituaries
- January 25: Graveyard Records
- February 1: Military Records
- February 8: Immigration records
- February 15: Ancestry Network
- February 22: Family Search Network

concert: The 55-member mighty Jefferson Parish Community Band will perform at the East Shore Regional Library on Thursday, December 22nd at 6:30pm.
regeneration: Pat Barker’s classic novel “Regeneration” will be discussed by members of the brand new World War I Book Club at the East Shore Regional Library on Tuesday, December 27 at 6:30 pm. Retired educator Wendy Rihner leads the group.
exercise: Love Your Body Workout is held every Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Belle Terre Library, 5550 Belle Terre Road, Marrero. Patrons can exercise in groups in the spacious enclosed air-conditioned conference room. There is no coach. Customers simply follow along with the library’s collection of fitness and dance videos.
Yoga: This gentle yoga class with registered yoga teacher Peter Spera is held every Thursday from noon to 1pm at the Gretna Library, 102 Willow Drive, Gretna. Spera has 20 years of yoga experience. Bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Also, come early as space is limited.
R & D club: The Dungeons & Dragons team meets at the North Kenner Library (630 W. Esplanade Ave) from 6 pm to 8:30 pm. This group is for young people aged 18 and over. For more information call (504) 736-8730.
Bid opening: The Old Metairie Bridge Club meets every Thursday from 2-4 pm at the Old Metairie Library, 2350 Metairie Road. Beginners are encouraged.
read and write: The Youth/Twain Book Club and Writing Group meets every Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 pm at the Terrytown Library, 680 Heritage Ave. Panelists will discuss creative writing and share stories, writing prompts, and provide feedback for those who want to share their work.
Computer courses: Get free computer training at the East Coast Regional Library. Seats are limited and online registration is required.Visit the Computing Course Page www.jplibrary.net/training and click East Bank Regional Schedule. Upcoming courses include:

Classes at the West Bank Regional Library will resume next year.
All Jefferson Parish libraries will be closed December 23-26, December 30 and January 1-2, 2023. The library will be open as normal on Saturday, December 31st. Customers can access all digital content during this time.
