Hana, dul, set… Time to teleport to Seoul. It doesn’t take much effort, all you have to do is reach the Korean Cultural Center in Abu Dhabi on September 14th.
They are hosting a lecture and tasting event on Korean street food. Say, “Woo to the Young to the Woo… Dong to the Geu to the Rami!” to some delicious, fiery fried rice cakes and kimbap.
Participants will be able to watch demonstrations and learn how to make street food such as Tteokbokki, chewy rice cakes with spicy sauce and kimbap, which is made with rice, vegetables and meat – similar to sushi.
During the event, Nam Chan-woo, director of the UAE Korean Cultural Center, will hold a lecture on Korean street food. The lecture will be followed by a demonstration of how to prepare the dish.
All participants will also have the opportunity to taste a variety of Korean street food at the event, according to a press release issued by the center.
Tteokbokki, which is made of Garaetteok or rice cakes and fish cakes mixed with red pepper paste and soy sauce seasonings, is a common street food and “soul food” that has long been loved by Koreans.
Fried rice cakes are enjoyed in a variety of ways, such as at street stalls, and are usually sold in small cups to which various unique toppings, such as cheese, are added to create a “fusion” version of the dish.
Gimbap, which has recently attracted much attention due to the hit Korean drama “Lawyer Wu”, is also one of the most commonly eaten snacks and street food in South Korea.
An official from the Korea Cultural Center said: “…Eating kimbap and fried rice cakes with friends has always been a fond childhood memory. We hope this is an introduction [these foods to the attendees] And give them a chance to taste these iconic Korean street food loved by all generations of Koreans. “
