Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel exchanged fire on Friday-News

[ad_1]

Hezbollah stated that it retaliated by targeting open spaces near the Israeli army.

The Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah organization fired rockets at Israeli forces on Friday to direct Israel’s retaliatory fire to southern Lebanon, the third day of a cross-border salvo that is more tense in the Iranian region.

Hezbollah hinted that its attack was calibrated to avoid further escalation. It said its target was an open space near the Israeli army in retaliation for Israeli air strikes and attacked the open space.

Israel has stated that it does not want to escalate to a full-scale war, although it is ready.

Lieutenant Colonel Amnon Scheffler, spokesman for the Israeli military, said: “Our understanding is that Hezbollah deliberately aimed at the open space to prevent the situation from escalating.”

Last week, Iran attacked an Israeli-managed oil tanker in the Gulf, resulting in the death of two crew members and the deaths of a British and a Romanian. The incident did not cause any casualties. Tehran denied involvement.

As Iran faces the possibility of Israel or the international community taking action against the Gulf incident, violence has broken out across the border, which has long been a battlefield between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel.

The volley began on Wednesday, launching a rocket attack from Lebanon on Israel, and no organization claimed responsibility. Hezbollah did not comment on the attack, which caused Israeli retaliatory artillery fire and air strikes.

One of Iran’s main allies, Hezbollah, said it fired dozens of rockets on Friday near Israeli positions in the disputed Sabah Farms border area in response to an Israeli air strike on Thursday.

The attack triggered a wave of criticism from opponents of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which is suffering from a severe financial crisis that the ruling elite has not resolved.

In a rare challenge to Hezbollah, the fighter who fired the rocket was stopped by the locals as they passed through the Druze region.

“What is happening in the south is very dangerous, very dangerous, especially considering the huge tensions in the region,” said Samir Geagea, a Christian politician who is close to Saudi Arabia and a staunch opponent of Hezbollah. In particular.

No casualties reported

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon stated that the situation was very serious and urged all parties to cease fire.

The Israeli military said its iron dome system intercepted 10 of 19 rockets on Friday, of which 6 landed in open areas and 3 landed in southern Lebanon.

During the three-day aerial shooting, there were no reports of casualties or serious damage, which has disrupted the relative calm for a long time since the month-long war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said he is consulting the defense and military chiefs on the violence. The military said it had attacked the “rocket launch site in Lebanon” on Friday in response to a salvo from Hezbollah.

For a long time, security analysts have cited the risk of Israel being involved in a multi-line war with Iran. Iran also supports Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip. Israel engaged in an 11-day conflict with them in May.

Israel said it is calling for global action against Iran due to the attack on Mercer Street off the coast of Oman last week. Mercer Street is a tanker managed by an Israeli company, but willing to do so when necessary. Act alone. The United States and Britain said they will cooperate with allies in response to the attack.

Diplomats said that the United Kingdom will propose an attack on the tanker at a closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council later on Friday, but the 15-member body is not expected to take any action.

The foreign ministers of the G7 wealthy economies stated that Iran is threatening international peace and security, and all available evidence indicates that it was behind the Mercer Street attack.
