On Thursday, the Democratic Party reintroduced a bill that would reimburse the families of black soldiers who fought in World War II.

The bill is called the “Reinstatement of GI Act” and will provide soldiers’ families with “transferable benefits that can be used to obtain housing, go to college, or start a business.”

South Carolina’s House of Representatives Majority Whip Jim Clayburn and Massachusetts’s Democratic Rep. Seth Morton said that because white officials are responsible at the state and local levels, black veterans have “in the past access to geographical indication benefits”. limited”.

“Although the original GI Act brought decades of prosperity to the post-war America, it was limited to black veterans of World War II who were rejected by most white state and local veteran administrators. Fully enjoy these benefits,” the press release said.

The bill would grant the descendants and surviving spouses of black veterans of World War II the right to obtain the “Virginia Loan Guarantee Program.” As you may know, this program helps veterans buy and build houses.

It will also enable them to obtain Post-911 GI Bill education assistance, which provides financial assistance for job training and schools.

“We all know that the fastest way to accumulate wealth is through education and home ownership. So many black families have been denied this path to the middle class. It is important to acknowledge the injustice and help resolve problems caused by the government’s failure to fulfill The racial disparity between the rich and the poor is exacerbated by the commitment of veterans of World War II,” Cliburn said in a statement.
