On Thursday, Les Pierrettes dedicated its annual ball to Pierrot, the master of French pantomime. Held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans this year, the theme of the ball is “Les Pierrettes Goes to The Big Apple.”
At 8 p.m., Jimmy Maxwell and his orchestra begin playing. A whistle heralded the appearance of this year’s captain, Miss Isabel Fenner Merlin, daughter of the Max Edward Merlins. Captain’s ‘New York Taxi’ slip dress in bright yellow sateen with black sequin trim at black and white checkerboard collar and skirt hem. She wore coordinating yellow shoes and gloves, tailored to match, and finished off with a taxi-logo headpiece.
With the help of his lieutenants, the captain leads 10 dancers onto the dance floor as they dance to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” and Jay Z and Rhianna’s “Empire.” State of Mind” (to name just two) dances. Dancers wowed audiences with classic moves inspired by the infamous Radio City Rockettes, who wore Kelly green double-breasted skater dresses with faux fur hats and cuffs.
In keeping with the theme, the lieutenants get ready to explore the Big Apple in their signature “I (Heart) New York” top, sequin pedals, red sequin high-top kicks, checkerboard fanny pack and Lady Liberty headgear.
After the ball the lieutenants sat at the foot of the gleaming gold and silver throne where their sovereign, Miss Lanier Lange Kearney, daughter of Mr and Mrs Clay Parker Kearney, and her royal entourage worship.
