Lewis Hamilton on whether Michael Massey’s actions in Abu Dhabi were intentional: PlanetF1

Lewis Hamilton has revisited the controversial way he saw a record-breaking eighth World Championship slip through his fingers in the 2021 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

In 2021, with Hamilton’s bitter title race against Max Verstappen taking root, F1 race director Michael Massey has decided to design the final match between the two after the safety car period following Nicholas Latifi’s late crash. A round of showdowns.

Masi only allows a selected number of lapped cars to unbond themselves again, which then allows Verstappencompared to Hamilton, who dominated before Latifi’s crash, so the tires were fresher, and he won the championship and his first world title in one fell swoop.

Marcy’s decision ultimately cost him his job and robbed Hamilton of his chance to pass Michael Schumacher to the top of the World Championship with eight world titles.

As the first anniversary approached, Hamilton was asked if he felt Marcy’s actions were intentional.

“I don’t know. It feels like a long time ago,” Hamilton said in an interview with Select Media in Austin. As quoted by Motorsport.com.

“I think it’s just bad decision making. I’m sure there’s a self-involvement, and then there’s an active part. Someone’s talking in his ear. I don’t think it’s particularly targeted.”

What seemed to hurt Hamilton even more was that the sport as a whole allowed that highly controversial moment to happen and allowed a situation where wrongdoing by those in power could dictate the course of the world title.

He added: “What’s really shattering is just believing that the sport will do things like this, and that will happen in the sport because you depend on so many people.”

“You expect the job to be done right. The result of the World Championship, which so many people are fighting for, will come out because of someone’s wrong decision, you know?

“It’s probably the only thing. It’s not because I don’t like working with my team or the car, but really if you can lose a championship through wrongdoing within an organization, that’s what I want to know matter.

As for recovering from the whole story of regret, Hamilton said time with his family helped him distance himself from that dark day in Abu Dhabi.

“But I spent time with my family and that was really the best part of the recovery process. I just spent all my time with the kids, making snowmen, being with them.

“It allowed me to really recover, to really bounce back. If I wasn’t with them, I’d be stuck in a hole.

“I’ve left. I refuse to live in the past. I’ve been through it in 2007 and as a young man it definitely kept me awake at night, it’s just negative.

“When you hold on to some negativity, when you hold on to hatred or anything, it just makes you hold back.

“I’m going up. No matter what happened in the past, I’m going to keep going. I choose not to repeat it. There was nothing I could do back then. I gave everything. Like, I gave everything, I sacrificed.

“But I’m willing to do it again. So that’s what I’m working on.”
