The Government of Liberia (GOL) and the United Arab Emirates signed a bilateral cooperation agreement on infrastructure development, on the occasion of the inauguration of the modern state-of-the-art Emirates Hospital in Bopolu, Gwapolu County, the West African country.
The agreement signed on the day of the hospital’s inauguration will strengthen the smooth operation of both parties in terms of economic empowerment and essential services.
Liberian Foreign Minister Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr. signed the document on behalf of Liberia, while United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Affairs and Relations Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan signed the document on behalf of the Arab government.
Insights into the agreement also reveal trade in goods and services, investment, and agriculture, including agri-processing activities, livestock, fishing, and the acquisition or lease of agricultural land.
It also includes energy and renewables, mining and industry, infrastructure, construction, real estate, tourism, telecommunications and transport, among others.
“The parties may decide to cooperate in other areas that appear to be more beneficial, taking into account the priorities of the parties’ national economic policies,” the agreement said.
“In order to implement economic and technical cooperation under this Agreement, the Parties shall encourage relevant professional entities and the business community to explore the possibility of implementing projects in various fields of economic and technical cooperation,” it added.
The agreement further mentions that the contracting parties shall provide special facilities and incentives to investors of the two countries if such actions comply with the existing laws of the two countries and the international obligations and commitments of the two countries.
